PISA AND FLORENCE

PISA
The highlight from Pisa was (of course) the leaning tower.  It is a remarkable structure and we were able to climb to the top of it!  The tower really IS crooked and rather awkward walking up the stairs.  The views from the top were spectacular and it was really fun to do it with Kristin.

I was surprised at the number of tourists that we found there.   Lots of students here for Easter break.  It was interesting to listen to all the languages represented there.  We heard much more English here than in Cagliari.

We found a cute little Italian place to eat.  I actually never thought I would have the opportunity to EAT Italian food IN Italy!   Actually, its quite fun...and very good!   The waiters are all so nice and usually speak a little English.

FLORENCE
Today we woke up early to catch the early bus to Florence.  The crazy thing was that Kristin and I were the ONLY passengers in this coach bus.  A much different ride than our plane ride to Cagliari.

After checking in, we went exploring the city.  It is truly a beautiful place with amazing architecture!  Somehow, Kristin and I found ourselves in the market (sorry, Allen) again.  It was fun just looking at things and watching people.  The cultural highlight was to visit the Galleria dell' Accademia where Michelangelo's sculpture of David is.  It is very, very remarkable.  Although no pictures are allowed, my rebel child, Kristin snatched a few anyway.  I'll post them later.

Our bed and breakfast is wonderful!! Thanks, Allen! for finding such a cool place for us to stay!  You are too good to us!  We have a wonderful view out our window!  Although Kristin and I have decided to stay in tonight (crackers and peanut butter!), we are both excited for breakfast tomorrow. The hosts here speak English and have been very helpful.  They also have a very nice son, Lorenzo which we think is especially nice. Hmmmm.

Kristin continues to draw attention simply by being blonde (and cute).  I am proud to be walking next to her, but sometimes I feel like her body guard... or at the very least, a frumpy mom. No one in their right mind would approach her with me standing next to her.  :) I do think it is a good thing that I am here with her!   Really! We're having a lot of fun.  We usually don't really know what we are doing or where we are going, but we have managed to get where we need to go MOST of the time.

What great pictures and stories - thanks!! And Mary, not all those looks are for Kristin! Maybe I should be there to watch over both of you - and eat a little Italian food along the way!
Enjoy the rest of your travels together!!
